How Does the RFID Elastic Fabric Wristband Work?

The passive RFID chip inside the wristband does not require a battery. When the wristband is placed near a compatible reader, the reader generates a radio-frequency field that activates the chip. The chip then transmits its stored identifier or data to the reader.

The reader sends this information to the connected access-control, membership, ticketing, locker or payment-management system. The system checks the wristband ID and performs the corresponding action, such as opening a gate, confirming membership, unlocking a locker or recording event attendance.

When an NFC-compatible chip such as NTAG213, NTAG215 or NTAG216 is selected, an NFC-enabled smartphone can interact with the wristband. Depending on the encoded content, the phone can open a website, social media profile, registration page, digital business card or other online content.

Actual reading performance depends on the selected chip, antenna size, RFID module structure, reader output, smartphone model and wristband position. Sample testing with the customer’s actual device or system is recommended before mass production.
